VMO Physician, Tamworth Rural Referral Hospital
A now retired rural nephrologist having worked at Tamworth for 36 years. My major aspirational goals were to develop nephrology services for rural patients, promote medicine, in particular rural nephrology as a rewarding career option and provide good patient care. Along with other colleagues from Australia and New Zealand we developed Interventional Nephrology as a legitimate stream in ANZSN. Teaching and mentoring have been and hopefully will continue to be a major career highlight. To see doctors who trained in Tamworth working rurally and contributing to ANZSN is a delight. Ultimately the most touching and beautiful accolade in my career was a goodbye from one of my patients- “thanks for keeping me alive”.
