Angela Yee Moon Wang, MD, PhD, FRCP, is a Clinician Scientist working at the Queen Mary Hospital, University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong and was graduated from the University of New South Wales, Australia.

Sydney Tang graduated from the University of Hong Kong and has obtained MD and PhD degrees at the University of Hong Kong. He has undergone training in basic science research in nephrology at Guy’s Hospital, King’s College London, and Seattle Children’s Hospital, University of Washington.

Dr Adrian Liew is a Senior Consultant and Chief of Nephrology at the Department of Renal Medicine, Tan Tock Seng Hospital in Singapore.

Anna Greka, an institute member of the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard, is a physician-scientist leading the translation of scientific discoveries from the laboratory to clinical trials.

Dr. Ooi is an Al and Val Rosentrauss Fellow at Monash University. He specializes in the identification of autoimmune T cell epitopes and understanding the basis of autoimmune susceptibilities.

Philip Beales is Professor of Medical and Medical Genetics at UCL in London, UK and an NIHR Senior Investigator. He is chair of the new UCL Institute for Precision Medicine and Director of the Centre for Translational Genomics (GOSGENE).

David Kavanagh is the Professor of Complement Therapeutics at the National Renal Complement Therapeutics Centre (NRCTC). He is the clinical lead for the adult aHUS service and head of aHUS diagnostics service. His University research group investigates the role of complement in renal and retinal diseases and is fully integrated with the NRCTC to provide rapid translational benefits to patients.

Dr Tom Barbour graduated in Medicine in 2004 at the University of Sydney, where he had previously obtained an Arts degree with honours in classical languages.  He was a specialist trainee in nephrology at Royal Melbourne Hospital and at the Churchill Hospital, Oxford, UK, and received his Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians in 2012.

Associate Professor Glenda Gobe is a molecular biologist with a well-established international reputation in kidney disease research. She is a molecular biologist and pathologist who has published on research into renal atrophy and regeneration, fibrosis, inflammation, and kidney cancer.

David Nikolic-Paterson is an NHMRC Senior Research Fellow and is Head of Laboratory Research in the Department of Nephrology at Monash Medical Centre in Melbourne, and a Group Leader in the Monash University Centre for Inflammatory Diseases.

Prof Forbes completed her PhD in Paediatric Nephrology in 2000 at the University of Melbourne and Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne, Australia. She then continued her training as a post-doctoral fellow in diabetes and kidney disease at both Austin Health and Baker IDI Heart and Diabetes Institute in Melbourne, Australia.

Kate Wyburn is a full time Senior Staff Specialist Nephrologist and Director of Kidney Transplantation at The Royal Prince Alfred Hospital Sydney, the current Chair of the NSW Transplant Advisory Committee and member of the National Renal Transplant Advisory Committee.

Angela Webster is a Nephrologist and Transplant Physician, having trained in England, Scotland and Australia. She studied Clinical Epidemiology at the University of Sydney, and was awarded a PhD for her thesis Immunosuppression and malignancy in End Stage Kidney Disease in 2006.

John has been a Clinical Nephrologist at the University Hospital Geelong, Barwon Health, Geelong since 1978 and is a Conjoint Professor of Medicine at Deakin University School of Medicine and Barwon Health, Geelong.

ENVIRONMENTAL WINS FROM THE AFFORDABLE DIALYSIS PRIZE
John Knight

John Knight is a part time professorial fellow in the renal and metabolic division of The George Institute for Global Health, where his academic research explores the clinical and economic outcomes of dialysis in resource constrained environments.

Minnie Sarwal is Professor of Surgery, with joint appointments in Medicine and Pediatrics, Director of Precision Transplant Medicine at the University of California San Francisco (UCSF), and additional positions as Adjunct Professor, Haas School of Business, University of California Berkeley, and Adjunct Professor at the Faculty of Health Sciences, Odense, Sweeden.

Professor El-Omar graduated in Medicine from Glasgow University, Scotland, and trained as a gastroenterologist. He worked as a Visiting Scholar/Scientist at Vanderbilt University, TN, and National Cancer Institute, MD, USA, and was Professor of Gastroenterology at Aberdeen University, Scotland, for 16 years before taking up the Chair of Medicine at St George & Sutherland Clinical School, University of New South Wales, Sydney, Australia.

INDIGENOUS PATIENT VOICES SYMPOSIUM, DARWIN

Dr Jaquelyne Hughes works as a nephrologist at Royal Darwin Hospital and NHMRC early career research fellow at Menzies School of Health Research. She is a Torres Strait Islander woman who grew up in Darwin before studying medicine at Newcastle University.

STRATEGIES FOR INVOLVING PATIENTS IN RESEARCH

Talia Gutman is a Research Officer and PhD candidate at the Sydney School of Public Health, The University of Sydney, Australia. Her primary research interest is in the area of patient and caregiver involvement in research in chronic kidney disease.

EMPOWERING THE PATIENT VOICE FOR HIGH IMPACT RESEARCH

Nicki Scholes-Robertson is a clinical Physiotherapist who received a live donor transplant in November 2014. Nicki established in 2013 a Renal support group in her town Armidale NSW which continues to meet monthly.

David Johnson is currently Director of the Metro South and Ipswich Nephrology and Transplant Service (MINTS) and Medical Director of the Queensland Renal Transplant Service at Princess Alexandra Hospital, Brisbane, Australia, Professor of Medicine and Professor of Population Health at University of Queensland, and Director of the Centre for Kidney Disease Research, Brisbane, Australia.

Vlado Perkovic is Executive Director of The George Institute, Australia, Professor of Medicine at UNSW Sydney, and a Staff Specialist in Nephrology at the Royal North Shore Hospital.

Prof Walker is the senior academic nephrologist in New Zealand with extensive experience in the areas of clinical and experimental nephrology research with a particular emphasis on cardiovascular risk factors in chronic kidney disease and hypertension. He is the director of ‘The Kidney in Health and Disease’ Research group based at the University of Otago.
