Dr. Victor Puelles
Victor Puelles holds a medical degree from Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia (Lima, Peru) and a PhD from Monash University under the main supervision Prof. John Bertram. For his postdoctoral training in Germany, he first moved to the RWTH Aachen University Hospital and then to the University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf, where he started his research group. In 2022, he was appointed dual Professor of Complex Tissue Analysis at the Department of Clinical Medicine, Aarhus University (Denmark) and the III. Department of Medicine (Nephrology), University Medical Center Hamburg Eppendorf. Victor leads a multidisciplinary team of physicians, molecular biologists, and computational scientists that aims to decode tissues to understand human disease. To this end, they develop microscopy and computational methods to profile tissues across biological scales, from whole organs to subcellular compartments. While most of their work uses the kidney as a model, their methods can be applied to any system, which motivates our broad interest in collaborations. Every tissue provides an opportunity to learn something new, including preclinical models and precious patient specimens.
