Dr David Metz is a paediatric nephrologist, clinical pharmacologist and clinician-researcher. His PhD investigated methods to increase safety and effectiveness of mycophenolic acid in kidney transplantation, through clinical trial and pharmacometric analysis. His research continues in this field, alongside active translation into clinical care. This includes precision dosing of tacrolimus and several PKPD studies in the paediatric population.
David works as a paediatric nephrologist at the Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne, where he is also clinical lead in haemodialysis, and of therapeutic plasma exchange within the apheresis service. He is in addition medical lead of the Monash Children’s Clinical Trial Centre at Monash Health, which is involved in both commercial and investigator-initiated therapeutic trials to increase access to, and improve safety and effectiveness of, therapeutic drugs used in children.
