Biography:
I am a market access professional with over 10 years of experience helping to bring life enhancing medicines to patients in Australia and New Zealand (ANZ) whilst working closely with State and Federal Governments to shape an optimal reimbursement policy environment in preparation for the launch of these medicines.
I have worked in various therapeutic areas including Oncology, Haematology, Neuroscience, Rare Diseases, Gene and Cell Therapies, Immunology, Renal Disease and Vaccines.
Aim:
This study aims to understand the burden of glomerular diseases for First Nations and Maori communities and people residing in rural and remote areas in Australia and New Zealand (ANZ). By synthesising existing literature, we seek to highlight the epidemiological, clinical, and economic impacts of these conditions in the region.
Method:
Databases including Embase and MEDLINE were searched for relevant studies published between January 2010 and April 2025. The review focused on epidemiological data, health-related quality of life (HRQoL) impacts, and the economic burden associated with glomerular diseases. Studies were selected based on predefined inclusion criteria, and data were extracted and analysed to identify key trends and gaps in the current knowledge.
Results:
Findings suggest that glomerular diseases impose significant clinical and economic burdens on patients and healthcare systems in ANZ. The incidence and prevalence rates of these diseases, along with their progression to end-stage renal disease (ESRD), will be described. Additionally, the review will highlight the HRQoL impacts and the economic costs associated with long-term treatment and renal replacement therapies.
Conclusion:
This systematic review will provide a comprehensive overview of the burden of glomerular diseases in ANZ. The findings are expected to underscore the need for improved therapeutic strategies and healthcare policies to manage these conditions effectively. By identifying gaps in the current literature, this study will pave the way for future research aimed at mitigating the impact of these renal diseases on patients and healthcare systems in ANZ.
