The ANZSN Council, Scientific Program and Awards Committee (SPARC) and Local Organising Committee (LOC) warmly invite you to Noongar Whadjuk Boordja (Perth) for the 60th ANZSN Congress. We acknowledge and deeply respect the Whadjuk Noongar people as the Traditional Owners of this land and thank them for allowing us to meet on their Country. We also pay our respects to their Communities and Elders, past, present, and emerging.

The theme for this year’s Congress is “Shaping Aotearoa and Australian Kidney Health: Past, Present and Future,” reflecting our collective journey in advancing kidney health through history, addressing current challenges, and paving the way for future innovations. Our program will explore new research, emerging technologies, and collaborative efforts that are shaping the future of kidney care. Key areas of focus include equity and diversity, Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islander, Māori, and Pacific health advancement and sustainable healthcare practices.

We are privileged to host an outstanding lineup of international plenary speakers: Professor Adeera Levin, Dr Apisalome Talemaitoga and Professor Liz Lightstone. Their expertise and insights promise to enrich our discussions and inspire us to take bold steps in our work. We also deeply value the contributions of our consumer partners, whose voices and perspectives help ground our innovations in real-world impact.

Noongar Whadjuk Boordja, with its stunning Derbal Yerrigan (Swan River) and vibrant cityscape, offers a beautiful backdrop for this year’s meeting. We encourage you to take some time to explore its natural beauty and relax amidst its welcoming atmosphere.

About ANZSN

The Australian and New Zealand Society of Nephrology is a not-for profit organisation representing the interests of over 1000 health professionals committed to the prevention and treatment of kidney disease. Through the ANZSN, members support a range of research, education and clinical care initiatives to promote evidenced based practice and quality outcomes for patients in Australia, New Zealand and our region.

Research

Annual Scientific Meeting to bring clinicians and researchers together to share new knowledge and ideas
Awards program to foster, support and recognise research excellence in the prevention and treatment of kidney disease
Travel Awards program to enable clinicians and researchers to attend scientific meetings in Australia, New Zealand and overseas
Funding support to the Asian Pacific Society of Nephrology for the production of the Nephrology Journal

Education

Basic, Advanced and Update programs provide support to clinicians undertaking advanced training in nephrology and continuing medical education
Advice on the educational content of the Haemodialysis Academy and the Peritoneal Dialysis Academy
Supporting the Kidney School which provides access to lectures and webinars on nephrology

Clinical Care

The Dialysis, Transplantation and Nephrology Workshop to provide forums for the exchange of knowledge on contemporary best practice
Provision of advice and guidance to government, research partners, affiliated organisations and others on the development of patient care guidelines and quality indicators, particularly in the area of dialysis care
Provision of regional education, training and advocacy to improve access to care and education for patients and clinicians in developing countries

The Australian and New Zealand Society of Nephrology recognises that urgent action is needed within the nephrology community to help minimise the impacts of climate change, sustainably manage natural resources, and reduce and manage waste. It is committed to embedding environmental sustainability into its operations, including holding conferences in ways that maximally benefit the host community and all involved while minimising environmental harm. Toward this aim, and with the help of the Green Nephrology Action Team (GNAT), a working group of the ANZSN, convened in partnership with Renal Society of Australasia, Kidney Health Australia and Kidney Health New Zealand, a range of green initiatives were incorporated into the 2020 meeting. We thank you for your support of these and welcome feedback on improvements that might be made in future meetings.
