2023 Abstract Submission

The ANZSN Scientific Program and AwaRds Committee (SPARC) and the 2023 Local Organising Committee invite the submission of abstracts for original work for consideration as an Award Oral, Mini-Oral or Poster at the 2023 ANZSN ASM.

Associated with the abstract submission process, financial Members of the Society are encouraged to nominate for an ANZSN Award.  The Awards to be presented at the 58th ANZSN ASM will acknowledge the outstanding research contributions and achievements of our Members across both clinical and basic sciences.

All submissions must be made via the online Abstract Submission Portal.  You must follow the correct process (format, word length) for the submission of your abstract.  Incorrectly formatted abstracts and those over 275 words will be automatically rejected.  The ANZSN ASM attracts a high volume of submissions and you will not be contacted to resubmit your abstract if it does not fit the requirement.

All accepted abstracts will be published in the Nephrology journal as received at the time of submission. Authors will not have an opportunity to revise their abstracts.

PRESENTATION FORMATS

When you submit your abstract you will be asked to indicate your preferred* presentation format (Award Oral, Mini Oral, Display Poster).  The Scientific Program and Awards Committee (SPARC) will use this indication as a guide when assessing your submission.  SPARC will assess all submissions based on merit and may accept your abstract in a different category to your nominated format. For example, should a Mini-Oral submission not be accepted the SPARC will endeavour to accommodate the abstract as a Poster.

MINI-ORAL PRESENTATIONS

  • At submission: 275-word abstract, author names and affiliations
  • If accepted, prior to the ASM: 50-word biography, presenter photo and presentation slides
  • At the ASM: Live 5-minute presentation followed by a live 2 minute Q&A group discussion
  • After the ASM: Abstract and biography remain live on the ANZSN ASM website

AWARD-ORAL PRESENTATIONS (ANZSN MEMBERS ONLY)*

  • At submission: 275-word abstract, 50-word biography, presenter photo
  • If accepted, prior to the ASM: 50-word biography, presenter photo and presentation slides
  • At the ASM: Live oral presentation (lengths and formats will vary, see below for details) followed by live Q&A group discussion.
  • After the ASM: Abstract and biography remain live on the ANZSN ASM website

*At its absolute discretion, the Scientific Program and Awards Committee may determine that no Award will be made in a designated Award category or Award year.

Select this presentation type if you wish your abstract to be considered for one or more of the ASM Awards categories listed below.  You MUST be a current financial member of ANZSN to be able to nominate for any of the below awards.  To join or check your membership visit the ANZSN website here.  There are firm requirements for eligibility in these categories.  If you apply for an Award and you are not eligible your abstract may not be considered for any alternate categories. Please carefully read the eligibility criteria and provide any supporting documentation as requested.

  • ANZSN Basic Science Award (12 mins oral presentation in a dedicated Award session)
  • Mid-Career Clinical Science Award (any oral presentation type at the ASM)
  • Mid-Career Basic Science Award (any oral presentation type at the ASM)
  • Young Investigator Award: Clinical Science (12 mins oral presentation in a dedicated Award session)
  • Young Investigator Award: Basic Science (12 mins oral presentation in a dedicated Award session)
  • Shaun Summers Clinical Trainee Award (5 mins oral presentation in a dedicated Award session)
  • Advancing Equity for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples and Māori Award (any presentation type at the ASM)
  • ANZSN & Kidney Health Australia (KHA) Environmental Research Award (any presentation type at the ASM)
  • ANZSN and Dietitians Australia (DAA) Nutrition Research Award (any presentation type at the ASM)
  • Interventional Nephrology Research Award (any presentation type at the ASM)
  • Rural Science Award (any presentation type at the ASM)
  • ANZSN and ANZPNA Tonya Kara Paediatric Research Award (any presentation type at the ASM)

POSTERS

  • At submission: 275-word abstract, author names and affiliations
  • If accepted, you mustg submit prior to the ASM: 50-word biography, presenter photo, and a PDF copy of your single AO PORTRAIT POSTER for inclusion in the ASM digital App and for organisers to print for you in NZ.
  • At the ASM: Your AO PORTRAIT PRINTED POSTER will be displayed on a board, with the abstract, biography and photo available to delegates on the Conference App during the ASM
  • After the ASM: Abstract and biography remain live on the ANZSN ASM website

Poster Specifications

  • 1 x A0 portrait Poster PDF
  • The digital file should be saved and uploaded as a PDF and they will be printed by the organisers in New Zealand if submitted prior to COB Monday 21st August

  • Abbreviations – include the full text on the first mention followed by the abbreviation in parenthesis

  • Do NOT submit abstracts with typographical or grammatical errors

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Work that has been published in full at the time of abstract submission is ineligible. Work previously published only in abstract form remains eligible
  • Abstracts may be original research, case studies, or insight and review articles
  • Full papers are NOT required
  • Only the presenting author must submit the abstract
  • Abstracts will NOT be reviewed if not in the specified format
  • All oral and poster presentations MUST be in English
  • Faxed or mailed hard-copy abstracts will NOT be accepted

ABSTRACT REVIEW PROCESS

Accepted abstracts will be blind reviewed by an Abstract Review Panel comprising the SPARC and ANZSN Members.

The SPARC reserves the right to:

  • Accept or refuse any abstract;
  • Accept the abstract in a different type of presentation (for example, abstract submitted for an oral type presentation can be accepted for a poster); and
  • Allocate a session time at the ASM.

At its absolute discretion, the SPARC may determine that no Award will be made in the designated Award category or Award year.

PRESENTER REGISTRATION

It is mandatory for all presenters to register for the meeting and pay the appropriate registration fee.  The 2023 ASM will be in-person only.  You must be present in Ōtautahi Christchurch to participate.

AVAILABILITY OF PRESENTATIONS FOLLOWING THE MEETING

Following the ASM, your Abstract and biography will remain visible on the ANZSN ASM website for delegates to view at any time.

If presentations are to be used or published in any other format or forum, your specific consent will be requested. Please ensure you have permission to use any images, music or content within your presentation. If you do not have copyright permission, your presentation will not be able to be used or published. Do not include any images copied from the internet. Getty Images and other image agencies crawl the internet looking for images that have been copied without the appropriate licences.

WILL PEOPLE BE ABLE TO RECORD MY PRESENTATION?

During the registration process, delegates must acknowledge and agree to the Terms & Conditions, which include strict rules around unauthorised photography and recording of conference material. While these measures can be taken, it is not always possible, with mobile phones, to enforce these rules. The assumption should be made that participants may indeed take unauthorised photographs, screenshots, audio, or video recordings, therefore you may wish to adjust the content of your presentation accordingly.
